… no one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made.
Neither is new wine put into old wineskins; if it is, the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins are destroyed; but new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.
Matt 9: 16-17
When we are called to be Christian we are called to change, not just patch ourselves up, but a 100% transforming change of heart – to turn away from the ways of the world (eat, drink and make merry for tomorrow we die), or greed (however we try to disguise that appropriate term) or selfishness (the oft praised by the world “looking after No.1”). We are called to love God and love neighbour, to put others first in loving service.
What would such a world look like if we all did this?
In the words of the Psalmist:
Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet;
righteousness and peace will kiss each other.
Faithfulness will spring up from the ground,
and righteousness will look down from the sky.
Yea, the LORD will give what is good,
and our land will yield its increase.
Righteousness will go before him,
and make his footsteps a way.
