We want and we want and we want some more. How often are we either never satisfied or getting what we wanted turned out badly. Lottery winners are not often known for their ‘happy ever after’ lives. What we want most is discernment: what do we need, what is good for us? Easter approaches now, yet hot cross buns have been in the shops since straight after Christmas. How special is a hot cross bun when you can have one every day? As well as discernment we want restraint, moderation in all things, so that what should be special remains so.
God, when we go off the rails in our clamour for more, let the lesson be learned without us causing too much harm to ourselves and others.
